Last time I took my Senior Pug (13 yrs.) to the Vet he told me that he wanted to give him a Leptosporosis shot. He said it had been a problem in the DFW/Texas area and he highly suggested it be given. I always have trusted my vet so I went along with it and it was a 2 series shot given 2 weeks a part. I also, have a Cogi puppy 8 months old at the time and he told me to bring her in for this shot. When I took her in she had an allergic reaction and was sick for a day in a half from the shot very lethargic, no appetite, not at all herself. The Vet still wanted to give the second shot in spite of the reaction but, he had me bring her in early and he gave her a Benadryl shot before the Leptosporosis shot and kept her under observation for 1/2 the day. She did fine with the second shot but, I was so worried.
I asked if other dogs had reactions to this shot and they said about 10 had similar reactions. I tried to do some research since this had put a scare in me about her having this reaction. Luckily my older dog did fine thankfully. Has anyone else encountered this with their pet? I don't know if I want to go through this again.
I also, just found out my pug has cataracts again he just turned 13. Not quite sure what that means with a dog. He gets around O.K. He has always been a very healthy pug other than as he has gotten older is now being treated for a thyroid condition.
The Vet said we could go to the Specialty Center for his eyes if we wanted to have him checked over there but, it would be very costly if we were do have the cataracts removed and he said if it was him he wouldn't do that. He said there are alot of dogs that have vision problems and do fine. Does anyone have experience with this?
