    Allergies and food trials

When we took PJ to our vet we discussed his allergies, he has this "crust" on the edges of his ears and sneezes every morning for a few minutes. He does not scratch himself or bite his paws very often, but we are concerned with his ears. The vet wants us to try a food trial, which means no more Milk Bone cookies or Eukanuba food. PJ lives for his cookies, I am not sure how well this will go over with him.

The vet also thinks his allergies may have something to do with his "leaking" glands...

Any thoughts or suggestions before we try this food trial?

    Re: Allergies and food trials

My pug doesn't have food allergies but my bulldog does. I took her to the vet and he put her on Hills z/d dog food. I liked it a lot. It was expensive and we had to have a prescription to buy it but her earaches and skin problems vanished.

Other dog owners I've spoken to have had more of a problem dealing with food allergies and have had to try several food types. Several people suggest feeding raw but my vet says that feeding raw is not a good idea because the raw meat that we provide is not the same that a wolf would eat in the wild and it just isn't healthy for domesticated dogs. Good luck!!

My pug Priscilla has allergies, she has to go to a dermatologist in Dallas, and get shots every 2 weeks.  The food that we found that works the best is Natural Balence.  Also instead of all the milk bones and petco cookies, she switched over to plain cheerios!  She loves them and they are not full of chemicals, plus it helps to keep her at a healthy weight!
