Below are some of our Special needs/critical pugs that really need your donations!!!

DWPRC was dealt another blow when we saved Bucket from the animal shelter. To refresh everyone Bucket was left in a bucket at the door of a local shelter overnight. We were called and Bucket was picked up right away and taken to Dr Gumfory. Bucket was estimated to be about 3 weeks old and appeared to be in decent health for a puppy away from his mother. We knew from experience that the other shoe was going to drop just did not know when or what. When Bucket was about five weeks old his foster mom called saying Bucket was having seizures and they were violent. One of our experienced foster homes took Bucket to see what was going on. Bucket continued to have major seizures for the next few days some only hours apart. Bucket was then taken to Dr Ducote the neurologist in Dallas for a more through diagnosis which she came back with as Hydrocephalus. The treatment for this is installing a stint in the brain to drain the fluid. This is a very costly surgery and DFWPRC had to decide what to do next. After talking it over with current active members that are involved in the day to day workings it was decided that WE MUST SAVE BUCKET. We need to raise at least $5000 for the test and surgery maybe more. Bucket is otherwise a happy little guy who loves to play with his foster brothers and sisters. He needs them to teach him since he was pulled away from his litter mates so early. PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING US IN THIS CHALLENGE AND SEND IN WHATEVER DONATION YOU CAN....EVEN $1 WILL HELP. Thanks from all of us here at DFWPRC and Bucket for your support.
BUCKET UPDATE OCTOBER 09, 2008
Hello everyone Bucket here checking in. My little life has been such a whirlwind I do not know where to start. I still have seizures but they are now mostly under control with several medications. I have had numerous trips to see the great Dr Ducote' and she is amazed at my progress. The University of Pennsylvania checked my test and sent back grim news that I am terminal and will not see my first birthday but I am here to tell you I will prove them all wrong. I was supposed to be digressing now instead I am thriving and actually growing up. I live with 8 Pugs and my foster parents. They all 'SHOW ME THE LOVE" which is what keeps me going. I am an avid gardener and have rearranged all the flower beds in the yard and also a carpenter and remodeled the window sills I could reach. I do spend considerable time in "TIME OUT". My medication is very expensive and I do want to thank everyone that has and continues to contribute to my medical care. I think most groups would have given up by now but not DFWPRC they continue to fight with me. Thanks for checking on me and I will keep you up to date on my progress..I am now 5-6 months old and I am looking for birthday number UNO!

NOVEMBER 11, 2008 BUCKET UPDATE
Bucket continues to buck all odds and seems to be growing up to be a nice young Pug. The Doc keeps telling us the disease he has will eventually take over but for now he is just an average looking for mischief little boy. He still has an occasional seizure but as long as we are strict with the two anti seizure drugs he is on he does very well. The drugs are a bit pricey and Bucket wants to thank everyone that donated in his donation bucket at Pug-O-Ween that allows him to have the medicine he needs. Bucket is in permanent foster care with 8 other Pugs and is doing well. If you would like to contribute to his medical cost please use the donate button below. Check back later for future updates.

Savannah is a cute, petite 14 lb. black female pug. She is about 11 months old. Savannah came into rescue with a ruptured eye. She was immediately taken to surgery to have her eye removed. After surgery, it was determined that Savannah also had suffered trauma at one time to her back. Her back leg drags when she runs and walks and her legs are wobbily. She is a happy girl and it does not seem to stop her from playing and exploring. If Savannah is to have any chance at a normal life, she desperately needs a neurology workup to see if anything can be done to help her. To do a CT Scan and or MRI will cost $1200-$2000. These are hard times for us all but our pugs still need our help. If you could donate to help Savannah we would be most grateful!
Update 11/03/08: Savannah has seen Dr. Ducote, a canine neurosurgeon. Dr. does not think Savannah's back leg weakness is due to a disc problem. She feels her injury is neurological; possbily a birth injury, or a cyst on her spinal column. We will take her back the week of Thanksgiving to be re-checked. If she is not any better we may need to do an MRI (Minimum of $1200.) Savannah is housebroken, crate trained, happy, loving and sweet. She loves to play and will make a wonderful family pet!
